Live the five star lifestyle
Posted by lovemoney in Uncategorized on 03 11th, 2010| | No Comments »

Do you lead the celebrity lifestyle on a student loan?  Our top tip is to hire not buy!

If you have a penchant for pretty purses and designer handbags but can’t afford the ‘off the peg’ £600 price tag for a Mulberry ‘Bayswater’ bag? You can hire one for £20 a week at handbaghirehq.co.uk instead of blowing your monthly budget in one swoop!

Or go for a Chloe ‘Bay’ bag – a big hit with Kylie Minogue – which costs £35 a week to hire. Prices start from £10 and you can hire on a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis plus the monthly £7.50 membership fee.

Alternatively, if you like to keep your bags for more than one week, but can only afford one designer bag, you could swap it whenever you wanted a new one via whatsmineisyours.com. This site also allows you to swap clothes and furniture.

Posted by lovemoney in Uncategorized on 03 10th, 2010| | No Comments »

1) Find the cheapest eateries

A bit of research in to where to eat goes a long way…

Have a look at restaurant critic Charles Campion’s favourite places in the UK to eat out for under £10. If you’re in London, check out Time Out’s cheap eats.

And Avoid those restaurant rip-offs to ensure the price of your cheap meal doesn’t mushroom!

2) Hunt out restaurant deals

Certain websites have set up deals with hundreds of UK restaurants, so you can grab special offers and big price reductions when you book through them.

If you want to treat yourself to a meal out, use TopTable, 5pm or Skiddle to find moneysaving meal deals.

Similarly, many restaurants are offering 2 for 1 vouchers right now. Check out our weekly Frugal Food round-up to find out more.

3) Hunt out the happy hour

If you’re looking for a cheap pre or post-dinner drink, take advantage of any happy hours you come across!

Use these happy hours to get pitchers of cocktails and/or wine and making them last for the rest of the evening. This nifty site tells you where you can pick up 2 for 1 cocktails in London.

How to get and keep a job!
Posted by lovemoney in Uncategorized on 03 6th, 2010| | No Comments »

The secret to getting and keeping a job is:

Getting a job: persistence and patience.

Keeping it: hard work.

That’s it. That is all you need. It’s all about your attitude and effort.

Now let me tell you what doesn’t matter: it doesn’t matter that you don’t know what you’re doing.

Ask lots of questions when you start working. It doesn’t matter how silly the questions sound. It doesn’t matter to the employer, who is glad you’re asking, believe me! If the following week you’ve forgotten the answer, ask the question again. This always happens, because you have a lot to take in when you start a new job.

Don’t be too keen at the cash machine!
Posted by lovemoney in Uncategorized on 03 4th, 2010| | No Comments »

Be careful not to get too carried away at the ‘hole in the wall’, because there are smarter ways to pay for goods…

A problem with cash is that it doesn’t generate a ‘paper trail’, other than the withdrawal receipt from the ATM. Thus, unless you note down all of your purchases as you go, it’s hard to keep a record of your cash spending.

There are other ways to pay for goods other than cash…

1. Cheques

2. Debit cards

3. Credit cards – careful use of credit cards can be highly profitable.

4. Automated payments

Whether you’ll be a graduate or finishing GCSE’S it is very important to start learning the value of money and what better way than to get part time job.

However, if you’re a student, keep an eye out at uni for PhD students who need volunteers for psychological experiments anything from having a brain scan to doing simple computer tests.

Or how about passing on your knowledge to younger students or school children, tutoring can be pretty lucrative and pay up to £20 an hour. Check out uktutors.com or Fleet Tutors for more details (discerning Londoners may also want to check out Osborne Cawkwell Educational Consultants).
